WORKS START ON SHARED PATH FOR A BETTER, SAFER DYNON ROAD

Cyclists and pedestrians in Melbourne’s west are set for better and safer journeys thanks to the Andrews Labor Government.

Member for Footscray Katie Hall MP today announced the start of works on a $4.8 million project which will include new shared paths for cyclists and pedestrians on Dynon Road connecting Footscray to the Melbourne CBD.

A two-way cycling path and a footpath will be built between Maribyrnong Street and Kensington Road and a new shared path to Highett Street which will connect with an existing shared path to North Melbourne.

Raised pedestrian crossings will be added to the Maribyrnong Street and Sims Street intersections as well as pedestrian operated signals at Maribyrnong Street, allowing safe access onto Dynon Road.

New line marking, additional signage and green pavement at intersections will improve the visibility of the shared paths, and extended kerbs will make it easier and safer for cyclists and pedestrians to cross the road.

The project is part of the Andrews Labor Government’s record $1.4 billion investment in the Towards Zero road safety strategy to deliver safer roads and protect Victorian road users.

Works on the project are expected to be completed later this year.
