🚨 Shorten Reserve update 🚨
@rosspencemp and I visited Shorten Reserve to speak with the @druidscc, @wf_bokkers, and cityofmaribyrnong about the planned redevelopment.
Two years ago I secured a $10 million contribution toward Council’s masterplan. The last Council endorsed a revised masterplan in August and I am keen to see works on the playing surface get underway as a priority.
There are 583 statues in Victoria - only 9 of those are women. There are more statues of dogs and horses.
We are changing this. The Victorian Women’s Public Art Program has opened voting to decide on Victoria's newest statues, and the inner west is in the running.
Vote now for Aunty Margaret Tucker MBE, a staunch activist for Aboriginal rights and a founding member of the Australian Aborigines’ League.
Voting is open now and closes on 8 December - search for 'Women's Public Art Program'
A little photo dump of the last week!
- @eleniskitchenandbar is back open! Yia yia is in fine form, too. It was so delightful to see the team have gotten back on their feet.
- Decorated the tree and picked up some super cute ornaments from @sedonia_seddon
- My dear friend Kate visited Parliament with her social enterprise of Syrian @aleppsoap, raising money for the @asrc1
- It was wet but Saturday’s doggo parade in Seddon attracted some delightful four legged friends. Great job @seddonvillage ❤️
- I needed a sugar hit and Be.K at Edgewater sorted me out.
- My mate from Sunbury @josh4sunbury and I are pretty excited about the additional 60% capacity on the Sunbury Line when @metrotunnelvic opens next year. Stay tuned… I’m hoping to organise an early tour for interested inner westies through the new train tunnel next year.
One of my @footscray_high_school work experience students, Lucas, missed out on meeting the Premier @jacintaallanmp last week because he wasn’t well.
This morning I was able to pass on this very lovely letter from the Premier to Lucas.
Millennium House is a special place in the inner west.
It was built by Polish refugees in the 1950s and has been given a $7 million makeover – with a $1.25 million contribution from the Allan Labor Government and the West Gate Neighbourhood Fund.
A Polish community organisation in Kingsville owned the building and have generously gifted it to be managed as a multicultural community centre.
Thanks to @ingridstitt.mp for joining me at @amcs_melb official opening.
100% publicly owned solar farm and battery, brought to you by the Allan Labor Government's State Electricity Commission.
This is what state-owned electricity looks like in Victoria, and when it's up and running, 100% of it's profits will be reinvested into more renewable energy projects.
Yarraville, say hello to your new reverse vending machine!
Located at the @yarravillecommunitycentre is a brand-new reverse vending machine for the Container Deposit Scheme. It's up and running and waiting for your bottles and cans.

This is the story about the workers of Footscray winning a rowing race in 1882.
It wasn’t just any rowing race… This is David and Goliath stuff. It’s glorious – enjoy!
The grade four students at @footscraywestps asked some great questions last week as we talked all things Government alongside parent Andrew, who works for a Department.
We've got some very talented people here in the inner west, including Susan Fitzgerald @hellospinspin.
Check out these cool custom-made illustrations ☝️
This is the second year I have been running the Footscray Youth Advisory Council, with young people across our community working on projects that mean something to them.
It was my pleasure to host them at Parliament while they spoke to the Minister for Youth, @nataliesuleymanmp, and Deputy Premier, @bencarrollmp.
TWO THINGS:
- It’s #ausmusictshirtday, and I’m strong, (STRONG) and invincible (INVINCIBLE) in my Helen Reddy tee, made in the inner west by @highteesaustralia.
Aus music T-Shirt Day is a day to celebrate Aussie music and raise funds for @Support Act to help musicians and people who work in the industry who are doing it tough.
- Lauren from Seddon is incredible. She’s raised $25,000 for movember. How lovely to meet her at Parliament! Amazing.
It’s @footscray_high_school Work Experience Week!
As part of my office’s program, we bring the students into Parliament for a day. They had the opportunity to have a chat with the Premier @jacintaallanmp, the Speaker, @mareeedwardsmp and the Minister for Youth, @nataliesuleymanmp.
This week I have six students, all keen to learn about government, politics and policy.
We've added induction cooktops to the Victorian Energy Upgrade program - making it even easier to go fully electric.

Our ‘cycling only’ superhighway from the Maribyrnong to Docklands is taking shape, cutting out all road crossings.
The West Gate Tunnel will be a game changer for inner west cyclists travelling to and from the city. With lighting, CCTV along the route, entry and exit points and enough space for emergency vehicles.
Part of 14km of new bike paths delivered through the project.

If you didn't know Christmas was around the corner, you do now—the Lions Club of Footscray's Christmas cakes have arrived!
Find them at @communitybankseddon and the @yarravilleclub.
It’s arguably our most precious, beloved space in the inner west. Our front yard. I’m so proud this time has come.
With an $8.7 million investment by the Allan Labor Government, Footscray Community Arts’ new outdoor performance space is about to take shape.
Our new amphitheatre will be a venue for events of all kinds, with year-round weather protection, reduced noise for residential neighbours, enhanced landscape that honours Country, and improved disability and mobility access.
Thank you, Daniel, Julia, Uncle Larry, and all at @footscrayarts, for your work and passion for art and Footscray.
Work experience student takeover by Crystal, year 10, from Kingsville.
As someone who has been involved in social justice and community service for a long time, politics meant being able to create change. I hope to pursue both international relations and science in the future.
Katie’s officers were lovely. I have been introduced to so many opportunities and have learned more about the work done expanding and reshaping the Footscray electorate. I even met Katie’s adorable dog, Maggie!
The coolest thing for me was meeting the premier, and my biggest regret is not taking a photo with her ☹. Overall, it was a lovely and insightful experience! Thank you for having me, Katie.

Congratulations to @kindredstudios for being nominated for best small venue at the Music Victoria Awards!
Maribyrnong College will always have a special place in my heart—it's where my dad went to school all those years ago.
Thank you to the student leaders and leadership group for inviting me back to speak with them about their master plan to continue providing the best possible learning environment for all students.
