supporting projects to uplift footscray community

Twenty-two community groups in the Footscray area will share in almost $200,000 worth of grants as part of the latest round of the Victorian Government’s West Gate Neighbourhood Fund.

Supported projects include the Blacksmiths Festival which will celebrate arts, culture and community by igniting creativity and forging new connections and experiences, delivering blacksmith showcases and workshops.

The funding will also help Little Africa Traders deliver a Summer Food and Fashion Night market in the Little Africa Precinct which offers live music, henna artist, face painting, fashion displays, African drumming and food.

It will also enable Yarraville Seddon Eagles Football Club to host a fun community program for women, parents and carers returning to exercise, introducing locals to their women’s football program and offering babysitting onsite to make it easier for parents to participate.

The latest projects funded will be delivered over the next 12 months and deliver a benefit to local communities.

The West Gate Neighbourhood Fund supports community projects that celebrate history, support diverse communities, focus on arts, provide new opportunities and skills for communities, increase participation, and bring the community together.

It is targeted at organisations in the Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong Council areas to support communities most impacted during construction of the West Gate Tunnel Project.

The Fund has now awarded $10 million in funding to support over 260 community led projects with over 100 projects now completed in the inner west.
