SUPPORTING COMMUNITY PROJECTS TO BRING FOOTSCRAY TOGETHER

Community groups in the Footscray electorate have received a welcome boost with the latest round of the Victorian Government's West Gate Neighbourhood Fund, sharing in $1.4 million funded to more than 90 local projects in the inner west.

The projects supported include an upgrade of the Yarraville Seddon Eagles Football Club’s home ground that will incorporate new behind-goal netting to improve safety for players, spectators and neighbouring properties, along with kitchen and sound system improvements that will make the club more welcoming and enjoyable for visitors.

Footscray will come alive with funding awarded to a series of exciting community events and festivals including Sleepless Footscray Festival, a vibrant celebration of our thriving African culture and arts scene.

Women of Culture presented by Songlines Aboriginal Music Corporation will showcase the beauty and strength of women in Indigenous culture via dance, live music, weaving and language workshops, while Inner West Community Bike Hub will encourage everyone to get on their bikes with a series of events celebrating the benefits of active transport.

The West Gate Neighbourhood Fund, an initiative of the West Gate Tunnel Project, supports community projects that celebrate history, support diverse communities, focus on arts, provide new opportunities and skills for communities, increase participation, and bring the community together.

It is targeted to the Hobsons Bay and Maribyrnong Council areas to support communities most impacted during the construction of the West Gate Tunnel Project.

For more information about the Fund and the projects supported, visit westgatetunnelproject.vic.gov.au/neighbourhoodfund.

The West Gate Tunnel Project is more than a tunnel. The project is connecting communities and making the inner west an even better place to live with 14km of new walking and cycling paths, new open space and $10 million in grants and partnerships to bring people together.
